Tour Ideas and Prices "...THERE IS NOTHING - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING - HALF SO MUCH WORTH DOING AS SIMPLY MESSING ABOUT IN BOATS." Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows
ROWEST offers lessons in peaceful setting on the canyon portion on upper reaches of Cochiti Lake ( wakeless lake) on the Rio Grande. Most lesson get out on the canyon to see scenery, birdlife from water fowl to birds of prey... sometimes wildlife from Beaver to Silver Fox...there are even a few ancient petroglyphs at eye level on the banks.
All lessons or tours are by appointment only. Lessons/Coaching & 2hour tours are best scheduled on long summer days in the evening in the last 2 hours before sunset (the winds settle and the light is beautiful) or on weekend mornings ( being off the water before 11am since potential winds tamper with best conditions for beginner lessons) or weekend evenings as above. In the Spring & Fall only weekends are offered as a rule.
Extended tours are for experienced rowers only and can range up to 30 miles right on this section of the Rio Grande. Custom tours can be arranged depending on season etc. on other sections of water in Del Norte. Sites other than Northern New Mexico like Colorado lakes or Utah flatwater river sections...or Inn to Inn style tours staying in B&B's then rowing a few hours on some special piece of water. (this might require the participant to have their own rental car to follow or meet the ROWEST 'fleet" at points along the itinerary.) These can include sites along the way to the water like the Ghost Ranch and Echo Amphitheater up in Georgia O'Keeffe country or great little Spanish Villages. On the water find other interesting geologic features like the hoodoos on the Chama River above Abiquiu Lake . Costs will vary and be quoted once a trip is customized. Contact us below.
Last but not least...not a rower and do not intend to be one?? But, perhaps you would like to be a passenger on a jaunt up the canyon to see the beautiful country (think of Mole & his first trip with Ratty in "Wind in the Willows")...then hire ROWEST to take you (and even 2 of you, not to exceed 300 pounds combined weight) on a river tour in the ROWEST double rigged as a Thames River Skiff with passenger seat.
